- Someone with a master's degree looking for part time work or a student with a bachelor's degree who is working on a master's degree in counseling, art therapy, social work, social psychology, or childhood development, or related field is strongly preferred. This is because this job can include working with youth who have experienced trauma and may have emotional disturbance or mental health issues which are known to increase one’s risk of homelessness.
- Some in-state travel is expected with this position; you will be reimbursed for travel costs but are expected to have a reliable mode of transportation.
- Responsible for community & youth outreach activities totalling approximately 10 hours per week with 10 hours per week on site at Bloom House. The ideal candidate will be a self starter who comes up with outreach ideas themselves as well as follows the prepared outreach plan as directed. This position has a lot of flexibiity and will be expected to be a creative person who can work on their own ideas and initiatives who works well independently as well as a member of a team.
- Case management with individual youth which may include family members when applicable. Case management includes the provision of on-site as well as occasional off-site collaboration with community-based services as well as assisting youth to access community services. While case management is not therapy, there may be times when assisting a youth with moderate emotional and behavioral needs is appropriate and a necessary step in the youth accessing and receiving needed services which is why this position needs to have that experience and competence.
- This role is best suited to someone who is passionate about advocating for runaway and homeless youth and will attend community and statewide meetings and conferences with other organizations in order to advocate for the needs of runaway and homeless youth. This role may attend meetings and committees related to outreach.
- Coordination with the rest of the staff team and other social service professionals involved with individual youth is a necessary part of the job so the ideal candidate will communicate with other staff at shift changes or after an outreach event when there has been contact with a youth who qualifies for shelter so shelter staff can follow up for intake or other follow up.
- Connecting youth to mainstream services in the community to assist with goal setting, making, and tracking is crucial and the right candidate will be dedicated to learning about the services that are offered in the community in order to best share that with youth.
- Completing documentation in a timely manner in case files and service data entry into Clarity HMIS weekly will be important, so the ideal candidate will have strong time management skills.
- The case manager should expect a smaller caseload than the rest of the case management team since half their time is out of the house conducting direct outreach or working with our community partners, but will be responsible for intake, updates and progress notes, exits, and aftercare for the cases on their caseload.
- As a staff member, you will be part of a small staff team and expected to keep the outreach bag organized and let the director of services & art therapy know when something else is needed. All staff members keep their area clean and take turns cleaning rooms to prepare for youth shelter guests.
- This position reports to the director of services & art therapy. Compensation is $17/hour. Schedule is negotiable but if you are an early bird the ideal schedule of time in the building will be 7am-9am 4 days a week + the weekly staff meeting.
